Adam Driver was totally game for Kylo Ren’s shirtless scene in “Last Jedi”
Years from now, when we reflect back on The Last Jedi, we won’t still be arguing about whether or not Luke was truthful to his character, or if Porgs are cute or not. Rather, we’ll still be taking about Adam Driver’s shirtless scene as Kylo Ren.
Search your feelings, you know it to be true. It’s the moment in the movie that you either loved (because, !!!) or left wondering why it happened in the first place. Listen, there’s actually a reason it was included — with Rey acknowledging that she can see that Kylo is shirtless in his chambers, it establishes that the two can actually *see* one another via the Force Skype. So see, Kylo Ren needed to have his shirt off. It was necessary!
For director Rian Johnson, it was also an intimate moment, as he explained to People:
“What’s even more uncomfortable having a conversation face to face with a person you don’t want to, is if they’re half-naked during it, while you’re having to do it. And so it was just another way of kind of disrobing Kylo literally and figuratively a little bit more, and pushing that sense of these conversations becoming increasingly more intimate.”
As for putting Driver up there completely shirtless, Johnson continues that, “He knew he looked good.”
“Adam looks so damn good because he’d been training hardcore for the past six months for those fight scenes. I’m like, ‘Eh. He looks so good. We should put him up there.’”

As for if we’ll see him sans shirt in Star Wars: Episode IX, that still remains to be seen. If J.J. Abrams is listening, all we can ask is, “Please?“
