Get This: Adam Levine Is Technically LOSING Money Thanks to the Super Bowl
In case you hadn't heard the good questionable news, your mom's favorite band Maroon 5 is performing at the Super Bowl alongside Travis Scott this weekend, despite tons of controversy. And you probably have some questions. Questions like 1) Y tho? 2) How much are they getting paid for THAT gig? And 3) Speaking of money, how much is Adam Levine worth?
All good questions, so let's get right to it.
1) Y THO?
So, news that Maroon 5 would perform at the Super Bowl halftime show was announced back in September to tons of side-eye on Twitter.
The reason for said side-eye mainly stems from the fact that numerous other artists (from Cardi B to Rihanna) turned down the halftime gig in order to support Colin Kaepernick, the former NFL star who took a stand against racial inequality and police violence. And if you want to know how Colin Kaepernick feels about artists who chose to perform, the answer is NOT GREAT. In fact, he went ahead and RT'd this tweet from his girlfriend:
So, why would Maroon 5 risk their reputation with this controversy? Who knows, but the chance to promote their music to an audience of 100 million people might have something to do with it!
2) How Much Are They Getting Paid?
$0.00! Super Bowl performers historically don't get paid since the performance is itself a huge self-promotion opportunity. In fact, Maroon 5 is technically losing money since they decided to make a charitable donation of over $500k to Big Brothers Big Sisters ahead of the Super Bowl. Which is very nice of them and not at all a thinly veiled effort to make themselves look better in spite of this drama!
3) Sooo, How Much $ Is Adam Levine Worth?
Let's just say the lack of a Super Bowl payment isn't a huge deal for him. Adam is worth a reported $90 million (BRB, crying) and here's why:
'The Voice'
Adam reportedly earns a cool $10-12 million per season for hosting The Voice, and there have been 16 seasons so far. Literally, TIME FLIES when you're twirling around in a giant red swivel chair! Anyway, Adam probably wasn't always paid this much per season, but let's just assume he was for the sake of my arithmetic. Using my extremely sophisticated math skills, he'd have made $160+ million total before taxes. Damn.
Maroon 5
Maroon 5 makes a lot of money, but keep in mind that Adam has to share his riches with seven other band members. Even so, these old-timers are chart toppers in digital single sales-and that's just their music. They've also headlined nine very profitable tours. To give you an idea of how much money they earn from those, well, the band took home $71 million from touring JUST IN 2015. Bye.
In conclusion: the Super Bowl is a mess, Adam is rich, and here's some footage of me looking at his bank account:
