Addison Rae Reveals She Was Rejected From Her College Dance Team Right Before Blowing Up on TikTok
Addison Rae is living the life in LA these days, but she worked hard to get there and not everything came easy. The TikTok star opened up about the rejection she faced in the latest episode of her podcast, "Mama Knows Best," and honestly, the story will probably shock you.
To start off the episode, Addison told the story of when she tried out for the Louisiana State University Dance Team known as the Tiger Girls. Before blowing up on TikTok, Addison planned to attend LSU as a freshman this year. So, last spring, she went to try out for the team, and she even missed her senior prom to do so.
"It was kind of a priorities thing at that point," she explained. "I obviously would love to have gone to prom and I just never did, but it was really important for me to make this tryout and try my best to hopefully become a Tiger Girl."
For Addison, who has danced competitively since she was six or seven, joining the Tiger Girls was a dream. So, when she made it past the first round of cuts, it was a big deal. In the end, though, she didn't make the team and she was devastated.
At the time, Addison and her family were relying on her to make the team, so when she didn't, they reconsidered her attending LSU.
"It did suck so bad for me to not make this team because I was like, 'Ugh that just ruined my plans and dreams,' but luckily I was still in high school at the time so I still had a lot of time to figure it out," she said. In the end, Addison ended up still attending LSU in the fall, though she didn't stay there for too long before dropping out and moving to LA.
Looking back, the thought of Addison not making a dance team is crazy. I mean, now 56 million people follow her on TikTok to watch her dance everyday. For Addison, this is all part of the lesson.
"Rejection is a big part of the bigger plan of life," she said. "Obviously some things aren't meant for you or in line for your life and then it doesn't happen and you think it's the end of the world because rejection sucks and it feels like everything is falling to pieces," she said. “But building resilience and being able to bounce back without question and understanding that wasn’t meant for your life, and then something else better is coming. Rejection is kind of helpful in a way.”
And while she didn't know it at the time, something better was coming for Addison Rae, of course.
