Adele May Be Joining the Cryptic Album Rollout Club
Adele's new album may be coming soon.
A series of events on social media have the singer's fans convinced that her highly-anticipated fourth studio album will be released in by the end of the year. According to Billboard, the buzz began when Canadian radio host Mauler from The Morning Hot Tub and Stingray Hit List Countdown posted a since-deleted tweet reading, "New Adele. This week," followed by Billboard Charts account posting a list of Adele's chart stats on the same day.
Then yesterday, fans spotted at least two billboards and building projections with the number "30," per Rolling Stone.
The sole number was a tease enough for fans, since all of Adele's album titles have been numbers, but Adele also mentioned "30" as a possible album title in her 31st birthday post in 2019. "30 will be a drum n bass record to spite you," she wrote on Instagram.
The new album would be Adele's first in six years, following her 2016 album 25, which earned two Grammy awards.
News of Adele's upcoming album first broke last June, with an insider saying that the singer has "spent months in the studio recording her new album," and that "she is excited for the world to hear it." The source also said that the songs will allegedly include details from her split with former husband Simon Konecki, whom she separated from in 2019, at age 30.
The 33-year-old also addressed the album herself during her hosting stint on Saturday Night Live in October 2020. During her monologue, she addressed the reason why she wasn't also the night's musical guest, explaining, "My album's not finished and I'm too scared to do both. I'd rather just put on some wigs—and this is all mine, by the way—have a glass of wine, or six, and just see what happens."
The singer's team has yet to address the rumors or billboards. We'll have to wait for confirmation from the woman herself to see whether #AdeleIsComing.
