Wales Bonner and Adidas are adding two new sneaker silhouettes to their ongoing collaboration while bringing back a new version of their biggest hit.
The Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Samba Millennium and SL 76 form the sneaker component of their newest collection releasing next week. A total of six different shoes are included in the capsule, as each model takes on two colorways. While the Samba has been a staple of Wales Bonner’s Adidas past drops, the label is taking on the Samba Millennium and SL 76 for the first time. Like the Samba Millennium, the SL 76 is a successor to another Wales Bonner favorite, the SL 72.
The Samba, which Wales Bonner has played a key role in making the “it” sneaker of the last two years, returns with tan and cream colorways both taking on blue accents. Striping and mustache, both in off-white, and a darker brown leather tongue both all utilize a scaly leather for the latter colorway, which also features a speckled blue liner and multi-color laces. The latter then utilizes the scaly leather in the same places, albeit with dark blue stripes and the tongue and mustache matching the rest of the sneaker, as well as multi-color laces to match. Both sneakers also feature a translucent gum cupsole.
Originally released in 2009 as an updated version of the classic sneaker made for indoor soccer and reissued this year, the Samba Millennium now gets the Wales Bonner treatment for the first time with two options complementing the regular Samba in Nappa leather. The darker variant sees navy pony hair forming the back half, which also features the a contrast-stitched mustache that’s signature to the labels Adidas shoes. The lighter edition then borrows the darker brown for its leather back half. Both versions also include a speckled green liner and gum outsole, as well as a reshaped toe inspired by Adidas’ Copa line soccer boots.
Rounding out the footwear is the SL 76, a lesser-utilized model from Adidas’ archive. It breaks from the theme across the Sambas, with a light blue and yellow variants in suede and mesh paired with black leather.
An accompanying assortment of apparel and accessories includes tracksuits, running singlets, T-shirts, shorts, bags and a bucket hat.
The Wales Bonner x Adidas Samba, Samba Millennium and SL 76 sneakers will release alongside the rest of the collection Tuesday, May 21, through the websites for both parties, as well as select third-party retailers. The Samba is priced at $160, the Samba Millennium $250 and the SL 76 $100.
