For its latest riff on the classics, Adidas is turning three of its most iconic sneakers into billowing slippers.
The Adidas Samba, Gazelle and Superstar have all been transformed into pillowy slippers released in Asia and likely to follow soon in the United States. Each slipper retains its signature design elements — T-toes on the Samba and Gazelle; Shelltoe on the Superstar — with pillowy uppers made of padded nylon. Even the laces remain intact, while the sole has been redone with a thick EVA foam that’s both comfortable and lightweight. Suede is even used for the eyestays on all three slipers, while the toe detailing appears through stitching and the striping appears to be heat-pressed.
So far, the Superstar has been shown in official images in two core colorways: black-and-white and white-and black. The Gazelle has then been done up in pink, green, black and white, while the Samba is more muted in khaki and white.
This is hardly the first time Adidas has tinkered with its classic models, with the most similar transformation coming last year through Puffylite Sambas insulated with Primaloft and shielded from moisture with water-repellent nylon. Another whimsical take on Shelltoes arrived this summer with the launch of the Superstar Bubble, which wrapped the ’70s basketball sneaker with colorful jelly-like shell made of translucent TPU.
The Adidas Samba Home, Gazelle Home and Superstar Home has neither a stateside release nor price confirmed yet, but this post will be updated as more information becomes available.
