Airbnb Lists 'Lord of the Rings' Movie Set for Limited Time, Here's How to Book a Stay
This is your chance to journey to Middle-earth.
Fly, you fools, to Airbnb!
The vacation homes and condo rentals site has listed "The One-and-Only Hobbiton," the location of the original Lord of the Rings movie set, for a limited time.
For the first time, fans of the franchise have been invited to book a stay at the Hobbiton, featured in LOTR and The Hobbit film trilogies. Not only will guests be able to explore the space where the series was filmed, but they'll also be able to experience all the magic that Middle-earth™ has to offer.
In celebration of the 10th anniversary of The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, Airbnb has worked with the property owners to allow guests to indulge in special access to the 44 constructed Hobbit Holes and other beloved locations in The Shire™–like The Green Dragon™ Inn and cozy accommodations at The Millhouse.
The property is located on a 1,250-acre working farm complete with rolling green hills similar to The Shire™ as described by J. R. R. Tolkien in The Lord of the Rings and captivated Sir Peter Jackson’s movie scouts more than two decades ago.
According to the official listing, overnight accommodations will be provided in The Millhouse, a two-bedroom Hobbit-inspired home on the property fit for up to four guests that features a writing nook fit for Bilbo Baggins and homey decor curated by the trilogies’ Creative Director Brian Massey.
With sweeping views of The Shire™, guests can also enjoy private access to a personal Hobbit Hole, set up for relaxing moments of Preciousss™ downtime and afternoon tea, an evening banquet in The Green Dragon™ Inn with a feast featuring beef and ale stew, whole roast chickens, freshly baked bread, and plenty of ale, plus Second Breakfast™ and Elevenses™ served daily. As well as a behind-the-scenes private tour of the Hobbiton Movie Set to explore the makings of the trilogies.
While the rental isn't a giveaway, it will only cost guests $6/night to stay on the set–a bargain! So if you're interested, the hosts have offered up three two-night stays next spring (March 2-4, 9-11, and 16-18), and to book one of the weekends, you'll have to head to Airbnb before the rental booking opens at 10 a.m. NZDT (or 4 p.m. ET) on Dec. 14.
