Al Roker Receives Warm Welcome on Official Return to 'Today'
Al Roker is officially back on the Today show after a tough knee replacement surgery.
The Today show shared a heartwarming video of the morning of May 30, as Roker's co-hosts and fans celebrated his return.
With the caption, "Welcome home, @alroker. ??," the video starts with Savannah Guthrie announcing to Hoda Kotb that Roker is back in the studio, as Kotb says, "I mean, we've been waiting. This has been an empty spot," gesturing to a chair next to her.
The song "We Are Family" by Sister Sledge starts playing, as Roker enters the studio and goes about his day.
Outside of the building, Kotb, Guthrie, Carson Daly, and Roker stand in front of fans, with Kotb cheering, before a couple of fans hold up a sign and say, "Welcome back, Al!"
Roker then answers a question about what he missed most while he was out, saying, "Well, besides seeing my co-hosts' smiling faces, free food."
The video ends with Guthrie noting that the Today show is "not the same without you," before Kotb agrees and adds, "We love you, Al! Welcome back."
Fans in the comments were just as excited about the weathercaster's return to TV.
"Welcome back Al! You are a ray of sunshine!!! ??," said one viewer, while another wrote, "What a trooper !! ????????."
"What an amazing man. Already back to work in such a short amount of time ????," commented a third.
Roker recently underwent surgery to replace a previous knee replacement that had various complications. He noted that this time around, the recovery was more challenging, but the Today show co-host looks to be doing great!
