Al Roker Shares 'Magical' Update on New Granddaughter Sky
After welcoming a new baby into the family and becoming a first-time grandfather, Al Roker is truly smitten.
The famed weatherman couldn't help but gush over one-week-old Sky Clara Laga—born to his 36-year-old daughter Courtney Roker Laga and her husband Wesley Laga on July 3—during Monday's episode of Today, opening up about how it feels to be a "pop-pop."
"It is magical, it really is," Roker said while discussing his new title with his morning show co-anchors Savannah Guthrie, Hoda Kotb, Craig Melvin and Sheinelle Jones. "The thing is, everyone tells you it’s going to be 'this thing' and you don’t know; it’s like when they tell you about having your first child. And then to hold this little girl, knowing almost 35 years ago I held her mom? And here she is, 5 lbs., 15 oz. 19 inches long, and she’s just perfect."
"I’m telling you, she’s a great sleeper," he divulged of Sky, further detailing: "Sleeps for four hours, wakes up, goes to the bathroom, sleeps another four." Roker even joked that he and the baby are "on the same schedule."

During the hosts' conversation, the origin of Sky's name was addressed, as many had previously assumed the babe was given the namesake in honor of her grandpa's career in meteorology.
However, the 68-year-old insisted it "had nothing to do with the fact that I'm a weather person"—despite it seeming like absolute kismet. Clara, meanwhile, is the name of Courtney's godmother, Roker mentioned.
Providing an update on how his daughter and son-in-law are doing post-birth, he commented they are both "doing well" after Courtney's cesarian section, although "she’s struggling a little bit with that." Wesley, on the other hand, is dealing with the "gravity of being a dad. But he still has that buoyant personality."

Sharing her own announcement, the New Jersey-based chef, who goes by @ouichefroker on social media, took to Instagram with a duo of captures of the bundle of joy, saying, "we are absolutely obsessed with her," as well as thanking the labor and delivery team, "who helped bring her into this world."
On July 9, Courtney posted a new sweet snapshot of the baby girl, writing, "My heart is now outside my body ??," in the caption of the upload.
The proud pop-pop previously welcomed the baby with a social media post, where he confirmed he was "in love all over again" and "already planning the ways to spoil her and then hand her back."
From the looks of it, although it's only been a week, that much is already true!
