Al Roker Shares Video of Impressive Recovery from Major Surgery
After saying goodbye to his old knee and hello to a new one, the Today show weathercaster Al Roker shared the first look at his recovery in a new video.
The 68-year-old posted a video revealing he is already walking on the new knee. In the clip, he can be seen taking his first steps gracefully, almost as if he was enjoying a leisurely stroll, with one of the hospital nurses or doctors beside him.
He captioned the update, "Up and walking this morning on the #newknee #stepbystep Wearing a negative pressure pump to help facilitate wound healing."
Roker got a lot of vocal support for his recovery in the comments, with Pennsylvania state representative Malcolm Kenyatta writing, "You got this! ??," while Barbara Corcoran commented, "Go Al! ????????????."
Many more encouraged Roker and wished him a "speedy recovery." One person joked, "No one rocks a wound vac as cool as Al." Others wrote about how Roker is an inspiration to them and shared their own recovery journeys.
"I remember that first walk down the hall. Wishing you a full and speedy recovery," said one supporter.
Earlier, Roker posted a different video from his hospital room of the sun coming up, set to the song "Lovely Day" by Bill Withers. He wrote alongside the clip, "Feeling grateful and #hopeful on this #firstday with my #newknee Who knew?"
The Today Show Radio commented below, "Good Morning, Al! ????We're thinking of you!"
On his last Today show before the surgery, Roker described the procedure as "a replacement of a replacement." Because of this, Roker was well-prepared for the recovery process, having gone through it before.
He told his co-hosts, "This is probably my last walk of any significance before the knee, but it was such a gorgeous day, I had to get out and enjoy it."
The father of three also announced that he would be taking a short break from his on-screen job while he recovers from the surgery. Luckily, Roker appears to have a positive and confident perspective on his recovery, which looks like it's going well!
