Alabama gubernatorial candidate's 5-year-old son shows just how exhausted he is by his father's 396-day campaign
Campaigning prior to an election is a long and exhausting process for any candidate. However, as one 5-year-old proved, vying for votes can really take it out of the entire family.
Walt Maddox, who currently serves as the mayor of Tuscaloosa, Ala., has been working for 396 days to try to become the state’s first Democratic governor in 20 years. While most of that time has been spent without his wife and two kids by his side, he brought them out for the final few stops, and apparently their stamina for handshaking and media interviews isn’t very high.

In a photo taken by Jake Crandall, Maddox is beside his 17-year-old daughter, Taylor, and his wife, Stephanie, on the tarmac in Montgomery after the family had landed for his final appearance. Walt’s son, Eli, however, became the main event by hilariously displaying his utter exhaustion when he lay down on the ground in his pajamas.
Now people on Twitter are sympathizing with the young boy and also sharing similar photos of their own children.
Right now, at this point in the campaign, we are all Eli. #ImwithEli

Hi Eli, meet my little Drama Queen, Princess Aliyah. She’s also 5. Must be something about this age. 😁 pic.twitter.com/WJk9wikZsQ

Luckily, the long campaign trail came to a close on Tuesday. The results of the race aren’t expected to be announced until later — but chances are Eli won’t be staying up late to find out who won.
