Alaska spills on the time she & Katya were ignored by Lea Michele at the Grammys
Another story about Lea Michele!
During a recent “Hot Goss” episode of the Race Chaser podcast, Alaska and Willam shared their reactions to Princess Poppy attending the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards dressed as a green goblin/troll. Alaska praised Poppy and recalled a story of her own experiences attending award shows as a drag performer. “I went to the Grammys one year… Katya and I were invited,” she recalled. “Celebrities are mortified of drag queens because we represent the sort of facade. We pull the curtain back of the facade of what Hollywood is. We make fun of it.”
The RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars 2 winner then shared a particular interaction (or lack thereof) that she had with the Glee alum at the Grammys ceremony:
“People wouldn’t look us in the eye. Like, Lea Michele looked through us [and] wouldn’t even acknowledge that we exist. Kris Jenner was there just looking so mad at her life that it had come to this. She was hosting the E! red carpet and just looked so miserable. But celebrities, at least back then, were mortified of drag. So Princess Poppy doing this is a great statement. She’s the sum of all fears.”
For context, Alaska and Katya attended the 2017 Grammy Awards as they were fresh off appearing on All Stars 2 (which aired in 2016). At the time, the drag star shared a picture of them together at the event and wrote:
“That’s a wrap! My hair is obscuring a giant Grammy statue. Thank you #ERedCarpet for having us.”
Another day, another awkward behind-the-scenes story about Lea Michele!
