Alex Trebek’s New Memoir Will Reveal Why He Decided to Shave His Iconic Mustache
Alex Trebek is releasing a new memoir, The Answer Is… : Reflections on My Life.
The book will detail the longtime Jeopardy! host’s personal life, as well as answer longstanding questions that fans have been dying to know.
Trebek said he was inspired to write the memoir following the outpouring of love he received when he announced his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
Jeopardy! fans: If you’ve been patiently waiting for Alex Trebek to spill about why he decided to shave his iconic mustache, his thoughts on legendary champions like Ken Jennings and James Holzhauer, and what he really thinks about Will Ferrell’s impression of him on Saturday Night Live, you’re in luck.
The longtime Jeopardy! host announced that he’s releasing a new memoir, The Answers Is... : Reflections on My Life, this upcoming July. “I want people to know a little more about the person they have been cheering on for the past year,” he writes in the book, according to its publisher Simon & Schuster.
The memoir provides personal anecdotes and insight surrounding Trebek’s marriage, parenthood, education, career, spirituality, and philanthropy. The Answer Is... : Reflections on My Life is structured like Jeopardy!, with every chapter title in the form of a question. The memoir will also include never-before-seen photos of Trebek over the years.
The Jeopardy! Instagram account also relayed the exciting news, writing in the caption, “Alex has been making good use of his time at home! Announcing his new book, The Answer Is...: Reflections on My Life.”
Unsurprisingly, Jeopardy! fans are going wild about the announcement. “What is take my money,” a fan commented, while another person wrote, “It will be a good one...?? We look forward to reading your book Alex...??”
Trebek has received countless opportunities to write a book about his life, but it wasn’t until he felt moved by all of the love and messages he received following his stage 4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis last year, that he felt compelled to finally share his story.
“Now I’d be lying if I said that the journey had been an easy one. There were some good days, but a lot of not-so-good days,” Trebek said in a video shared to Twitter about the past year of battling cancer. “There were moments of great pain. Days when certain bodily functions no longer functioned, and sudden massive attacks of great depression that made me wonder if it really was worth fighting on.”
But the longtime Jeopardy! host continued to fight. “I brushed that aside quickly, because that would’ve been a massive betrayal—a betrayal for my wife and soulmate, Jean, who has given her all to help me survive,” he continued.
“It would have been a betrayal of other cancer patients who have looked to me as an inspiration, and a cheerleader of sorts of the value of living and hope. And it would certainly have been a betrayal of my faith in God and the millions of prayers that have been said on my behalf,” he said.
While production of Jeopardy! is paused indefinitely, the game show’s fans certainly have something to look forward to this summer. The Answer Is...: Reflections on My Life will be released on July 21, and you can preorder a copy now.
