Alex Trebek's Cancer Is in Near Remission: "It's Kind of Mind-Boggling"
A few months ago, if someone had told you that things were looking up for Jeopardy host Alex Trebek you probably wouldn't have believed it. But according to a report from People, it appears that the odds are turning in Trebek's favor. In the past month, the game show host locked in his sixth Emmy and is now able to report that he is in Stage 4 pancreatic cancer is in "near remission," according to doctors.
That news comes three months after his initial diagnosis, when doctors explained that the rate of survival for a cancer like Trebek's is around nine percent. But three months later, Trebek tells People for his cover story that some of the tumors have shrunk more than fifty percent since he started treatment. While the rate of survival remains the same in this situation, news like that is nothing to balk at. "It’s kind of mind-boggling," Trebek told the magazine. "The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory."
The news comes as this season of Jeopardy comes to an end with quite a story of its own. James Holzhauer is nearing the all-time winning record previously set by Ken Jennings about 15 years ago. In the meantime, Trebek doesn't plan on missing any of the fun or releasing control of the helm of the ship. He reported on Good Morning America earlier this month that the larger part of his treatment would happen in his down time from the program so that when filming resumes in July, he can jump back in with the series.
