All the New Beauty Textures You Need to Know Now

If there’s one thing Korean beauty has taught us is that when it comes to beauty textures, nearly anything is now fair game. So forget your traditional creams and foaming cleansers, these are the new types of textures to be on the lookout for this spring.

Carbonated Skincare

On the heels of the Sodastream craze comes carbonated skincare. And just like with water, bubbles seem to make everything a bit more fun. Take Sephora’s Bubble Mask ($19) whose initial gel texture transforms into a frothy foam, which helps detoxify polluted skin when applied.

Oil Blushes

We all know of facial oil and even, credit due to Yves Saint Laurent beauty and its tinted lip oil, but Milk Makeup’s Blush Oil ($26) feels new. The texture may feel slick at first, but the formula actually settles into skin quickly for a very subtle wash of dewy color.

Jelly Fun

Why let footwear have all the fun? Jellies have been infiltrating beauty too and the textures are plain fun to work with. We particularly like Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser ($18) for its extra touch of rosewater and comfrey root extract—both are meant to soothe and calm irritated skin. (Early adopters alert: in April, Dior will be releasing a Hydra Life Jelly Sleeping Mask.)

Pudding Masks

Forget the sweet and rich variety, puddings are the latest texture in an unlikely category: masks. Boscia’s new Charcoal Pore Pudding Intensive Wash-Off Treatment ($38) manages the magical balance of sopping up oil but without over-drying. Conveniently, the slightly bouncy two-part formula (it’s composed of white and black charcoal components) can also double as a spot treatment.

Velvety Tinted Moisturizers

For matte enthusiasts, usually going for a sheer natural-looking foundation color like tinted moisturizer or a BB Cream requires compromising for a dewier finish. Not anymore. NARS’s new Velvet Matte Skin Tint ($44) goes on sheer but settles into a velvety blur finish that’s wonderfully photogenic. Call it our new selfie favorite.

Shiny Brows

While not in its first season, shiny brows, a trend that first came from East Asia, are catching on. Specifically, the Eyeko Brow Gel ($25) with it’s deft little mascara-type wand is a favorite. The tinted formula is believable, adds a hint of shine (after all, our natural brow hairs would naturally have a slightly reflective surface) and all while holding everything in place.

Perfumed Gels

Tote around a perfume regularly in your purse and you’re bound to get spillage. Enter Chanel’s ingeniously packaged new Coco Mademoiselle travel size ($60). The slick packaging clicks open like a very expensive pen to reveal a lip gloss-sized wand applicator. Dab on the slightly gelled formula and you’ll have your favorite burst of Coco Mademoiselle but in a very chic spill-proof container. (You can literally turn it upside down while open and it won’t spill). Genius? We think yes.
