It's almost strawberry-picking season. U-pick strawberry season typically lasts from the middle of May to the beginning of June. There are numerous farms where you can pick or get them freshly picked. Some farms have playgrounds, markets, animals, and other family-friendly activities.
Here are nine places where you can pick strawberries in the Louisville area.
U-pick strawberry farms in Kentucky
Eckert's Orchard Pick-Your-Own Strawberries
WHAT: Throughout the season, guests can enjoy pick-your-own strawberries (May), blackberries (June), peaches (July to mid-August), and apples (mid-August) in the orchards. On weekends, there will be a "Strawberry Festival" with live music, additional games, and a train (May 18-19), a strawberry jam class (May 21), a Memorial Day Weekend Festival (May 24-27), and more.

COST: $3 for ages 14 and older; $5 for ages 2-13, including playground access.

Evan's Orchard
WHAT: U-pick and picked strawberries are grown in hydrostackers that make picking a breeze. Evan's Orchard also grows a variety of fruits and vegetables including 23 varieties of apples, blueberries, peaches, pumpkins, and more. The play area features massive slides, corn pits, jumping pillows, swings, duck races, pedal cars, corn hole and more. Visit Kate’s Barnyard to pet the goats, feed chickens, and visit cows, pigs, and more. The gift store and the market have farm-fresh foods, baked goods, crafts, and gift items.

Fairfield Fruits
WHAT: Offers u-pick strawberries in their own organically filled 2-gallon pouches that are drip irrigated. Fairfield Fruits also has blackberries, rhubarb, and flowers.

WHEN: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily starting in late May for strawberries.

Gallrein Farms
WHAT: Gallrein Farms has several acres of strawberries you can purchase fresh from the market or pick yourself. They also have 10 greenhouses with geraniums, impatiens, begonias, and marigolds, along with perennials, vegetable plants, and hanging baskets. The cafe/bakery has sandwiches, salad and sweets.

WHAT: Louisville-area farmers markets will have strawberries already picked and ready to go.

Applacres
WHAT: The Applacres orchard has strawberries, bedding plants, cherries, blackberries, peaches, and apples for picking and freshly picked in the market. It also has fresh-squeezed apple cider, hand-dipped caramel apples, fruits, vegetables, preserves, and jellies. They have u-pick or fresh-picked strawberries (starting in mid to end of May), red/black raspberries in June, and blueberries from late June to early August.
