Actress Amanda Bynes, best known for her namesake throwback Nickelodeon series The Amanda Show, announced on Valentine’s Day that she’s engaged to a mystery man.

The 33-year-old actress, who’s starred in movies like She’s the Man and What a Girl Wants, took to Instagram to post a photo of her new ring with her hand nestled against her fiancé’s. “Engaged to the love of my life,” she captioned the photo, against a photo of her significant other sporting a shiny gold men’s band.

However, fans were quick to notice his ring and questioned the validity of the engagement. It remains unclear whether Bynes, who’s openly grappled with sobriety issues and her mental health, was serious on social media.

Bynes has maintained a low profile after enrolling in the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandise. She subsequently went to a sober living facility, and later opened up to Paper magazine about her struggles. (Bynes has been acting since the age of seven, and went through a troubling downfall in 2014.)

“I just had no purpose in life,” she reflected in 2018. “I’d been working my whole life and [then] I was doing nothing. I had a lot of time on my hands and I would ‘wake and bake’ and literally be stoned all day long.”

Since then, her loved ones have been focused on her recovery with Bynes crediting her parents for helping her through. “I’m really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said. I can’t turn back time but if I could, I would,” the Hairspray actress told Paper. “And I’m so sorry to whoever I hurt and whoever I lied about because it truly eats away at me. It makes me feel so horrible and sick to my stomach and sad. Everything I worked my whole life to achieve, I kind of ruined it all through Twitter. It’s definitely not Twitter’s fault — it’s my own fault.”

More to come on her engagement announcement.
