Amanda Knox called 'tone-deaf for making disrespectful 'murder mystery' joke: 'You have no shame'
Amanda Knox posted a photo on Instagram on Tuesday with a comment that seems to flippantly reference the fact that she was once on trial for murder. for the death of her roommate, British student Meredith Kercher. Now commenters are divided, with some calling the quip “clever” and others telling the 31-year-old, “you have no shame.”
The old-fashioned image shows Knox and her fiancé, Christopher Robinson, seated on a sofa and looking somber in Victorian garb. They’re playing roles in a “murder mystery party” that Knox notes was thrown by her friend, Leila Blue Aram-Panahi.
In the caption, she draws a parallel between the party premise and her own life. It reads, “Victorian London: A priceless painting goes missing and the owner is found both poisoned and stabbed. And would you believe it, I, the Countess of Lovelace, am accused. Also acquitted, all in 4 hours. Better than 4 years.”

Those “4 years” refer to the time Knox spent in an Italian prison — from 2007, when she was charged with murdering Kercher, until 2011, when she was acquitted at age 24.
Today, Knox lives in Seattle with Robinson and works as an activist for the wrongfully accused and as a columnist for the West Side Herald. She keeps a relatively low profile, but maintains more than 43,000 Instagram followers. Their reactions to her post ranged from offended to impressed.
“I’m sure Meredith’s family isn’t laughing over this,” one person wrote. “Have some respect for an innocent victim; she and her family are the real victims in this.”
Another wrote, “I believe you are innocent of the murder of Meredith Kercher, Amanda, but really, this post is ridiculously tone-deaf. Surely, you must have expected some backlash?”
“Karma will get ya,” added a commenter.
But those are the only remaining negative comments, as Knox appears to have deleted others, including, “You have no shame,” “Anything for attention” and “Murder, your favourite subject!” according to Fox News.
Some comments came from people who expressed support for Knox and loved the “creative” caption and the “shade” she was throwing.
“This post is BRILLIANT. She shouldn’t have ANY shame about posting this. How about what it caused her and the time she spent in JAIL fighting for her freedom,” one person wrote.
“The girl is allowed to have a dark sense of humor,” added another supporter.
Knox — along with her boyfriend at the time, Raffaele Sollecito — was convicted in 2009 before the decision was reversed. Her acquittal was overturned in 2013 and she was convicted again before finally having her case overturned in 2015.
