  • Amanda Seyfried has called out influencer Arielle Charnas for posting a bikini photo of herself with the caption “Proud of my body after two kids.”

  • Arielle has clapped back, saying she’s being “bullied.”

Look, did you think you’d be waking up to news that Amanda Seyfried was calling out influencer Arielle Charnas over a bikini pic? No. But here we are.

This pretty nuanced internet callout session started with Arielle hitting Instagram to post a picture of herself in a bikini, captioning it, “Proud of my body after two kids.” And people were quick to accuse her of being “tone-deaf”—including Amanda Seyfried and her friend.

Amanda hit Instagram to post a screenshot of a comment her friend left on Arielle’s Instagram, where the friend asked Arielle to acknowledge that her wealth and privilege played a part in her ability to “bounce back after childhood” and that she was “glorifying” unhealthy body image.

Meanwhile, Amanda accused Arielle of “flaunting” her lifestyle. Here’s what she wrote:

“Fuck it—this is feed material. My very smart friend (again—not tagging) wrote this on a semi-influencer’s feed and she blocked both of us (even though I didn’t tag her—at least she’s getting the message). If we’re ready to get paid for flaunting our lifestyle (and inspiring some in the meantime), we have to be open to the discussions surrounding what we’re promoting. We have to back ourselves up—not run away from the issues it presents. There are gray areas everywhere. Each of us has a chance to back ourselves—especially on this platform. If you know who you are—take a second to decide if what you’re throwing out there is worth it—in the big picture.”

Amanda was called out by some people who don’t think it’s fair of her to pass judgment on Arielle’s Instagram, and while she’s apologized (“I’m sorry if this stinks of judgment. It’s not meant to. It’s all a discussion that needs to be had”), she made it clear that she still thinks influencers need to consider their, well, influence more.

So, how did Arielle respond? By posting a since-expired Instagram Story saying she’s being “bullied” and “punished because I’m thin.”

In conclusion: IG arguments are exhausting, nuanced, and deeply complicated.
