The Amazing Tom-and-Abby Reunion on ‘Queer Eye’ Almost Didn't Happen
Fans of Netflix’s Queer Eye reboot will remember the heartwarming scene in episode one where Tom and his ex-wife and soulmate, Abby, were reunited. It’s a pivotal moment that transforms the show from light entertainment to heart-wrenchingly good.
But now the show’s stars have revealed that the life-changing plot twist almost didn’t happen.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, resident culture expert (and general life guru) Karamo Brown says that the feel-good moment only happened thanks to foodie Antoni Porowski.
It was Porowski who picked up on an offhand comment Tom made about Abby, and refused to let him change the subject. Tom, in turn, confessed his love for Abby and then they lived happily ever after. (Yes, really.)
“Antoni shifted that episode,” says Brown. In fact, Brown had already filmed a scene with Tom in a speed-dating scenario and was helping him gain the confidence to meet other women.
“Antoni catching that one [comment where Tom mentions Abby] literally cut my scene out, which I’m happy about…. All of a sudden we are on a bench and I’m like, ‘Call your ex-wife!’ [to invite her to the car show],” says Brown.
Well, there you have it. Queer Eye’s Fab Five to the rescue. Now bring on season two.
