Amber Rose is having breast reduction surgery
Amber Rose is headed into the operating room.
As she shared on her Instagram Stories, Rose is getting breast reduction surgery for her “stupid heavy” boobs. “My Breast Reduction surgery is tmrw,” the 34-year-old model wrote on her Instagram, adding a worried face emoji and a heart eyes emoji. She continued, “I’m really scared and really excited at the same time. Dr. Matlock and Dr. Fisher are gonna take care of me.”

Rose previously revealed that she wanted the surgery as her “boobs are stupid heavy, my back hurts and I can’t wear cute lil shirts without a grandma bra.”
According to Dr. Matthew Schulman, NYC Board Certified Plastic Surgeon, women with large breasts often suffer from back, neck, and shoulder pain. Large breasts can pose lifestyle challenges for women, says Schulman, like “skin irritation in the folds under the breasts” and “interference in a woman’s ability to exercise and engage in strenuous activities.”
As Schulman explains to Yahoo Lifestyle, breast reduction surgery means reduced breast volume, leaving smaller and lighter breasts. The surgeon then lifts the breasts with a “more anatomic” position on the chest. “The reduced weight and improved position are what helps alleviate the symptoms of macromastia, or large breasts,” Schulman says. “My patients often report relief of the symptoms almost instantaneously.”
Rose isn’t alone in choosing to undergo surgery for back and neck pain brought on by breasts. “There were about 90,000 breast reduction procedures performed in the United States last year and approximately 75% were due to symptoms of large breasts such as back pain and neck pain,” says Schulman.
Rose has spoken publicly about plastic surgery before. Last year, she shared a video of herself getting Botox.

She’s also worked with Dr. Matlock in the past, writing just last week about a procedure to remove cellulite.

Rose has dealt with criticism for her openness, but we congratulate her for speaking up about her decision to alter her body. As one commenter wrote, “More power to you sis.”
