The American Bar Association Wants Kavanaugh's Nomination Suspended
Ahead of the Senate Judiciary Committee's vote to recommend Brett Kavanaugh's Supreme Court nomination at 9:30 this morning, the American Bar Association is calling for a suspension of Kavanaugh's nomination, CNN reports.
The ABA demands the Senate put a hold on Kavanaugh's nomination until a full FBI investigation has been carried out surrounding the three separate allegations of sexual assault he faces.
"The basic principles that underscore the Senate's constitutional duty of advice and consent on federal judicial nominees require nothing less than a careful examination of the accusations and facts by the FBI," wrote the ABA's president, Robert Carlson in a letter written to the Senate following both Dr. Christine Blasey Ford and Brett Kavanaugh's testimonies Thursday, per CNN.
"Each appointment to our nation's Highest Court (as with all others) is simply too important to rush to a vote," Carlson continued in the letter, later writing that " [a] thorough FBI investigation will demonstrate its commitment to a Supreme Court that is above reproach."
The Senate has previously shut down Democratic pleas for an FBI investigation, and will vote today, Sept. 28 to move Kavanaugh's nomination to the floor.
