Moms praise Amy Schumer for being 'not fake' about postpartum life: 'This s*** is bananas'
Amy Schumer will cap her first month of motherhood this week. In that short time, the comedian has already spoken out about the power of childbirth and been mom-shamed for doing a stand-up gig two weeks after giving birth to son Gene. And on Saturday, she celebrated her first birthday since becoming a mom, turning 38 amid the sleeplessness and stress of postpartum life.
Per usual, Schumer didn’t hold back about the realities of motherhood. Judging from her Instagram, her birthday celebrations involved lounging in bed with nearly month-old Gene. Her caption summed up first-time parenting perfectly: “This s*** is bananas.”
It’s a statement to which many fans can relate — and they’re grateful to Schumer for being “real” rather than glossing over the less-than-glamorous aspects of having a newborn baby.
One commenter thanked the Trainwreck star for being “normal, real and not fake.”
“These photos are the best because they are real,” added a fan.
“Currently trying to put my 2-week-old to sleep,” one mom wrote. “I relate to this pic on so many levels.”
“There is nothing as hard as that fourth trimester,” sympathized a follower. “You don’t know until you go through it. You’re doing great, mama!”
“It is my dear Amy,” a commenter added. “And so many women don’t talk about it. Postpartum is no joke. So hard, so beautiful, so transformative. You will come out stronger. In the meantime ask for help, especially from moms that recently went through it.”
Schumer, who documented her extreme bouts of hyperemesis-triggered nausea during her pregnancy, recently shared a photo of herself using a breast pump in her underwear, which fans hailed as helping to normalize the postpartum experience.
