Amy Schumer Provides Direct Response to Haters Criticizing Her Appearance
Amy Schumer
Amy Schumer just wants to celebrate the release of her show Life and Beth's second season, but her latest press appearances have been plagued with unsolicited comments about her looks.
The actress and comedian, 42, spoke out on social media to squash the commentary surrounding her physical appearance after internet trolls wondered why her face looked "swollen" during recent appearances on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Good Morning America.
"thank you so much for everyone’s input about my face!" Schumer sarcastically wrote in an Instagram post on Thursday, Feb. 15, while further joking, "I've enjoyed feedback and deliberation about my appearance as all women do for almost 20 years."
"And you're right it is puffer than normal right now," she admitted, while going on to explain that she has endometriosis, an autoimmune disease that she believes "every woman should read about."
"There are some medical and hormonal things going on in my world right now but I'm okay," she explained. "Historically women's bodies have barely been studied medically compared to men. The book 'all in her head' does a good job explaining this."
While Schumer further insisted that she "doesn't need any excuse for her physical appearance" and that all women "owe no explanation" for the way they look, she said she "wanted to take the opportunity to advocate for self-love and acceptance of the skin you're in."
"Like every other women/person some days I feel confident and good as hell and others I want to put a bag over my head," the Trainwreck star candidly stated. "But I feel strong and beautiful and so proud of this tv show I created. Wrote. Starred in and directed."
"Maybe just maybe we can focus on that for a little," she added. "I had backup dancers on Fallon but my face is the headline hahaha anyway I hope you enjoy life and Beth."
She signed the post, "Love and solidarity. Amy."
"You’re perfectly you. Thank you for always keeping it real," one of her followers applauded in the comments.
"You’re the best! All beautifully said. As always," added another supporter.
Life and Beth Season 2 officially premieres on Hulu this Friday, Feb. 16.
