Amy Schumer has revealed a new health condition—and it explains why her face looks "puffier" now than it used it, following online comments about her changed appearance.
On Friday, Feb. 23, the Life & Beth actress shared she has been diagnosed with Cushing syndrome in Jessica Yellin's News Not Noise newsletter.
"It has been a crazy couple weeks for me and my family. Aside from fears about my health, I also had to be on camera having the internet chime in," Schumer said. "But thank God for that. Because that's how I realized something was wrong."
It all started when Schumer, 42, faced unsolicited comments about her face as she embarked on a promotional tour for Life & Beth Season 2. Now, the mom of one says she feels "reborn" after learning she has Cushing syndrome—a condition that happens when the body produces too much of the hormone cortisol over an extended period of time.
"While I was doing press on camera for my Hulu show, I was also in MRI machines four hours at a time, having my veins shut down from the amount of blood drawn and thinking I may not be around to see my son grow up," Schumer explained. "So finding out I have the kind of Cushing that will just work itself out and I'm healthy was the greatest news imaginable."

Symptoms of Cushing syndrome can include weight gain, a round face, increased fat around the base of the neck, easy bruising and weak muscles, among others. Although the condition can triggered by certain medications, prolonged periods of stress can also be the culprit.
As for why Schumer decided to share personal medical details, she explained: "The shaming and criticism of our ever-changing bodies is something I have dealt with and witnessed for a long time. I want so much for women to love themselves and be relentless when fighting for their own health in a system that usually doesn't believe them."
