Anderson County Fair opens today in Clinton with rides, food, Fairest of the Fair, more

The Anderson County Fair, billed each year as the "Best 6 Days of Summer," opens Monday, July 15, at the Clinton Fairgrounds with amusement park rides, musical entertainment, contests, animals and pageants for girls from age 4 to 20.

The fair is July 15-20 at the fairgrounds, located at the corner of 218 Nave St. and Charles G. Seivers Boulevard in Clinton. General admission for adults is $10 a day or $40 a person for season tickets. Children under age 6 get in free, and thanks to sponsors, anyone 15 or under gets in free Monday through Thursday. The fair will open daily at 5 p.m. and close at 10 p.m. The exception is Senior Citizens' Day, which opens at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday for senior adults and their escorts.

Tickets for rides provided by James Gang Amusement are an additional fee. Pay one price and ride all the rides you want. The rides begin operating at 6 p.m. each day.

Fairest of the Fair and Tiny Miss pageants

The Fairest of the Fair contests are Monday night, followed by Tiny Miss on Tuesday night. You can watch the pageants at the fair's Underwood Pavilion, next to the Clinton High School baseball field and the Little Ponderosa Petting Zoo. Rehearsals and interviews for the Fairest of the Fair contestants are on Sunday at the pavilion.

The schedule of pageants:

  • Fairest of the Fair Preteen (ages 10-11), 6 p.m. Monday

  • Fairest of the Fair Princess (12-13), 6:45 p.m. Monday

  • Fairest of the Fair Junior (14-15), 7:15 p.m. Monday

  • Fairest of the Fair Senior (16-20), 8 p.m. Monday

  • Tiny Miss (ages 4-5), 6 p.m. Tuesday

  • Tiny Miss (6-7), 7 p.m. Tuesday

  • Tiny Miss (8-9), 8 p.m. Tuesday

Senior Citizens' Day

Gates open at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and admission is free for senior adults and their escorts. Free ice cream will be available at 1:30 p.m. All Anderson County citizens ages 60 or older are admitted free from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Refreshments and entertainment start at 11:30 a.m. at the Agricultural Pavilion. Contests will be held for Best Decorated Hat, Hog Calling, Men's Knobby Knees and Jig Dancing. Special recognition will be given for the oldest man, oldest woman, couple married the longest, newlyweds, 50-year marriages with both husband and wife present, and the woman with the most children.

Musical entertainment and more

Musical entertainment is scheduled 7 to 10 p.m. each night at the Entertainment Tent. The acts:

  • MONDAY - Will Shepard Band, country music

  • TUESDAY - C-Town Music, disc jockey playing the latest hits

  • WEDNESDAY - 110 in The Shade Band, funk, soul, Motown and rhythm and blues

  • THURSDAY - The Boogie Knights

  • FRIDAY - Jay Eric Band, variety of musical genres

  • SATURDAY - The Chillbillies, rhythm, boogie and blue

Three shows by Marshall Manlove, "The Mind Shifter," will be presented from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Entertainment Tent. It is described as a a comedy hypnosis show.
