There's been a lot of ground covered in the ever-expansive world of Star Wars. We've seen three trilogies of the 'Skywalker Saga,' an original trilogy telling of Luke Skywalker's coming of age and taking on the dark side, along with trilogies that tell what came before and what comes after that. But in recent years, much reverence has come for 2016's Rogue One: A Star Wars Story; a largely "force-free" story that instead tells of the rebels in the trenches, without whom the events of the original trilogy would be impossible.

Andor, which once again stars Diego Luna as his Rogue One character Cassian Andor, tells of the events that made Rogue One possible. It tells of the souls that dared to fight against the power that had taken place; it tells of the sparks that become the full-fledged Rebel Alliance. To put it simply, without the events of Andor, the Empire wins.

Tony Gilroy, who was a co-writer of Rogue One and oversaw that film's reshoots, is the showrunner of Andor. Gilroy's other credits include writing and directing Michael Clayton—a perfect film—and writing the original Bourne trilogy. So you know Andor has the juice to be great. It turns out to be the most adult project in all of Star Wars—Gilroy's experience in the espionage genre is evident, and every character you see in the show is fleshed out. The motivations are real, and understandable.

Luna leads the cast, with others including Stellan Skarsg?rd and Adria Arjona along for the ride. But it's Gilroy's smart writing and the show's mature tone that sets Andor apart from the rest.

The show is planned for two 12-episode seasons, which will bring viewers right up to the point of Rogue One, where the rebellion really gets its legs underneath it. Here's when you'll be able to see each chapter of this far-fetched story unravel.
