Andra Day Stuns in Custom Vera Wang Haute—and Over $2 Million Dollars of Tiffany & Co. Diamonds—at the 2021 Oscars
Andra Day tried turning down the role that earned her a Best Actress nomination at this evening's Oscars, but after seeing her incredible performance in The United States vs. Billie Holiday—and this stellar red carpet look—we could not be more grateful she changed her mind. Day has spent this red carpet season showing up in jaw-dropping looks, and this evening was no different.
The Oscar nominee worked with Vera Wang on her super-sexy, gold gown with a thigh-high slit and midriff cut-out. The designer, who recently rebranded her label to include a more high-end offering, Vera Wang Haute, collaborated with Day for her first official look under the label.
Haute, Wang explained exclusively to BAZAAR.com, is her nod to Haute Couture, "it's Couture-light," she says. The collection, which will join the brand's more accessibly priced collections and capsules, will allow the designer to continue to experiment with high design and craftsmanship in her New York atelier. This debut look on Andra Day is the first of many to come from Vera Wang Haute, under which the designer will release all her future ready-to-wear and luxury bridal collections.
According to E!, Wang worked with metal welders on the custom liquid gold metal mesh she used to create the cutaway gown, which she accented with her signature draping, asymmetric straps, and a slitted skirt that plunges into a dramatic side train.
Day accessorized the look with over $2 million dollars of Tiffany & Co. diamonds, including earrings featuring two square emerald-cut Fancy Vivid yellow diamonds totaling over 12 carats, a Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger bracelet in platinum and 18k yellow gold with over 465 Tiffany diamonds, and a selection of Tiffany & Co. Schlumberger and Tiffany T rings. The actress and singer's choice to wear head-to-toe gold on the Oscars red carpet is a nod to the glimmering statue Day could stand to receive later this evening, following her win at this year's Golden Globes.
