Angel Reese Admits She Didn’t Believe LSU Tigers ‘Were National Championship Worthy’
Angel Reese, the superstar basketball player for LSU’s Tigers, sat down for a chat with Interview, conducted by former celebrity stylist Law Roach. She opened up about being hesitant to leave her family in Maryland to attend LSU, and spoke about continuing to process the whirlwind that’s been her life since leading the Tigers to a national championship earlier this year.
Reese was instrumental in helping the Tigers defeat the Iowa Hawkeyes in early April. It was a win that notched the team’s first national championship, and the highest-scoring championship game in women’s NCAA history. Since then, Reese has become a darling of NIL deals, and appeared on the covers of SI Swim and Sports Illustrated, along with fellow LSU athlete Livvy Dunne.
Reese admitted that she had no idea her decision to attend LSU would result in so much success so quickly. She expressed to Law that she initially didn’t want to attend college because it meant leaving her family and her life at the University of Maryland.
“When I first came to LSU, I just transferred to get a fresh start. I went 17 hours away from home. I had no expectations of winning a national championship,” Reese admitted. “I’m being completely honest.”
The thought was so far from her mind, in fact, that Reese admitted she wasn’t even sure the team could pull off such a feat. “Going into our year, we didn’t believe that we were national championship worthy,” she reflected. “But we won and everything came so fast. I literally just won a national championship four months ago and I’m back at practice.”
She admitted that the full scope of her accomplishments hadn’t hit her yet, partially because she's been so busy. “I still haven’t sat down and thought about everything I did this summer and how many people have reached out to congratulate me,” Reese said. “Even the photo shoots I’ve done, the music video I did, I really haven’t full-circle-momented that.”
