Angela Lansbury Is In Talks to Star in New Adaptation of 'Little Women'
Angela Lansbury is in talks to join the cast of a new TV adaptation of Little Women. The three-part series is a joint effort from PBS and the BBC, and comes from a female writer-director duo – Heidi Thomas (Call the Midwife) wrote the script, while Vanessa Caswill (best known for the BBC series Thirteen) will direct.
Per Deadline, Lansbury would play the role of Aunt March in the adaptation of Louisa May Alcott's beloved Civl War-era classic, which follows the four March sisters – Jo, Meg, Beth and Amy – as they grow from childhood to adulthood, looked after by their single mother while their father is away at war.
Ever since the iconic 1994 movie, which starred Winona Ryder as Jo and Christian Bale as her dreamy neighbor Laurie, there have been a few attempts at new adaptations. The CW was threatening to make a "gritty, dystopian" take for a while, which mercifully never made it past the development stage, but it's hard to imagine a safer set of hands than this BBC-PBS team-up. Filming on Little Women is due to begin next month.
