Angelina Jolie Addresses the 'Healing' Her Family Needed After Brad Pitt Divorce
Angelina Jolie is looking back on her divorce from Brad Pitt.
In a new interview for Vogue, where she serves as the fashion publication's latest digital cover model, the Maleficent actress vaguely described the split between the Mr. & Mrs. Smith stars as something that required "a lot of healing" in the aftermath.
While explaining how her entire family was deeply affected by the whole ordeal, including the former couple's six shared children—Maddox, 22, Pax, 19, Zahara, 18, Shiloh, 17, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 15—she candidly admitted, "We’re still finding our footing," without going into much further detail on the high-profile breakup.
Personally, though, even with the struggles, Jolie credits parenting with her ability to rise above it all. "I was 26 when I became a mother. My entire life changed. Having children saved me—and taught me to be in this world differently,” she told the outlet.
She continued, “I think, recently, I would’ve gone under in a much darker way had I not wanted to live for them. They’re better than me, because you want your children to be."
The 48-year-old also admitted that she's been feeling "a bit down" over the past several years. “I don’t feel like I’ve been myself for a decade, in a way, which I don’t want to get into,” she noted, while also confessing that she's "still understanding who" she is at her current age, chalking it up to being "in transition as a person."
It was announced that the Salt star and Babylon actor would be going their separate ways in 2016, after spending 12 years together as a couple.
