Angelina Jolie has parted ways with her divorce attorney Laura Wasser. People reports that Jolie has transitioned to new counsel in her divorce proceedings and custody battle with Brad Pitt, and that she "remains focused on healing her family."

“Angelina has decided to change counsel to Samantha Bley Dejean, as Samantha’s expertise is the protection and best interest of children,” Jolie's spokesperson Mindy Nyby said. “Angelina appreciates Laura’s cooperation in transitioning the case over the past several weeks.” Per a source quoted in the People report, Jolie appointed Dejean a month ago, and the case has now been fully transitioned over.

The Jolie-Pitts announced their divorce in September 2016, with Jolie issuing the following statement through Wasser: "This decision was made for the health of the family. She will not be commenting at this time, and asks that the family be given their privacy during this difficult time." Just under a year later, in August 2017, reports emerged that divorce proceedings had been put on hold. The couple have been in a long legal battle over custody of their six children Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, and twins Vivienne and Knox.

Speaking to Vanity Fair last year, Jolie indicated that she and Pitt had reached a more positive place as co-parents, following reports of difficult communications after their split. "We care for each other and care about our family and we are both working towards the same goal," she said. "I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it's very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything's going to be all right even when you're not sure it is."
