Shannon (known by fans as "Mama June"), had been keeping fans updated on Cardwell's status after the heartbreaking news regarding her daughter's battle with stage 4 adrenal cancer—a diagnosis she received back in January 2023—was first revealed in March.

Months later, in June of 2023, Shannon shared that Cardwell's condition was terminal, "We've all accepted that, so I just tell people one day at a time 'cause you never know," she said to reporters at the time.

On Friday, Dec. 8, Mama June Shannon updated her TikTok and Instagram followers, explaining Anna's condition had taken a turn for the worse in recent weeks.

"I just want to let y'all know that some things have changed in our lives over the last few weeks that are totally out of our control," she said in her video. "God has all the faith, has all the cards, but Anna is still with us. But as we are going through this transition, we are asking still for continued prayers for Anna, continued prayers for the family."
