Anne Hathaway is officially starring in a Sesame Street movie, and our inner child is stoked

We’ve got good news people: Anne Hathaway is officially heading to Sesame Streetnot for an episode, but for a movie. Jonathan Krisel, who’s set to write and direct the upcoming film, confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that the Ocean’s 8 actress will star in the film. While staying mum on specifics, Krisel dropped a major hint about the plot, citing Sesame Street‘s legendary theme song, “Can You Tell Me How To Get To Sesame Street?” According to THR, the movie will be “a musical drawing inspiration from the show’s theme song, with characters getting lost in N.Y.C. and trying to find their way back to Sesame Street.”

Despite being one of the most enduring children’s brands ever—with 49 seasons of its ongoing flagship television series, more than two dozen made-for-TV movies and educational specials, and an endless supply of merchandise—Sesame Street has only released two movies in theaters. The still-untitled upcoming “lost in New York” film would be the first Sesame Street movie on the big screen in two decades, following 1999’s The Adventures of Elmo in Grouchland.

While a release date hasn’t been set, Krisel revealed that filming could begin as soon as this summer. This year is shaping up to be a big one for our beloved Sesame Street residents. The iconic franchise is also celebrating its 50th anniversary—and that’s something to celebrate.
