Annual CU Pride Fest to return this weekend
CHAMPAIGN COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — This Sunday marks the beginning of a week-long festival in Champaign-Urbana celebrating members of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Pride Fest returning to Champaign-Urbana in September
Uniting Pride’s office will host the first event of Pride Fest this year on Sunday, Sept. 15. Attendees can make their own pride signs and fans at “Craft it UP” for upcoming events later in the week from 1-3 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m that same day, Anthem will host “Queeraoke,” a queer-themed night full of singing and dancing.
Other events throughout the week are focused on education, action, discussions and celebrations.
Pride Fest will culminate over the weekend. On Friday, Pride Fest attendees can enjoy the Youth and Family Pride Party, Pride on Market Street and Carnival Debauche. The CU Pride Fest Parade and Drag Extravaganza will take place on Saturday and will be followed by a drag brunch at Anthem on Sunday Sept. 22.
