Annual festival showcases Myrtle Beach’s ‘melting pot of diversity’
MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A cultural community celebration is coming into its own in downtown Myrtle Beach, as the annual Myrtle Beach International Culture Festival returns for a fifth year.
It’s all about celebrating life through diversity — that’s the motive behind the annual festival that continues to grow as the community does too.
“You get a chance to kind of, get a view of all the different cultures in the community,” event director Lisa Coombs said.
According to Coombs, there are more than 50 cultures in Horry County.
“And my vision is for it, [is] to grow to the point that all cultures are represented at this event,” she said.
The festival is set for Sunday from 1-9 p.m. at Chapin Park. Coombs said they’re planning for a dozen performers, about 30 vendors, nearly 1,500 attendees and cuisines from around the world.
She added that visitors from all over attend and plan a summer vacation around the event.
“We have people that come from as far as Georgia and Florida, Savannah and across the states, South Carolina, North Carolina,” Coombs said.
For now, it’s a one-day festival, but that could change as Coombs has a specific goal in mind.
“I would like to see it go from one day to a weekend,” she said. “Where we have it on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, so that will give us the opportunity to showcase our melting pot of diversity.”
The event is free and open to all. If you want to be a vendor and showcase your culture, there is still time. The deadline to register is Saturday, for a link to event details, click here.
