Ansel Elgort's Nude Photo Helped Raise $20K for COVID-19 Relief
Actor Ansel Elgort sent the internet into a tailspin of thirst yesterday when he posted a nude to his Instagram grid, and teased fans with the suggestion that he had pivoted to amateur porn to make money while in lockdown. Turns out, however, that it was all for a good cause.
Elgort dropped an artfully-shot black and white photo of himself naked in the shower, hand just about covering his modesty, and captioned it: "OnlyFans LINK IN BIO." OnlyFans, for anybody who isn't aware, is a platform where sex workers can monetize their explicit content by making it available to paying subscribers. Given that Elgort has a pretty passionate fanbase, this drove a helluva lot of people to the URL in his Instagram profile.
The link, though, wasn't for OnlyFans. Instead, it directed viewers to a GoFundMe page for the Brooklyn For Life! campaign, founded by Westworld star Jeffrey Wright. The campaign is dedicated to providing meals for frontline healthcare workers in eight hospitals and medical centers across Brooklyn during the coronavirus pandemic.
So far, the GoFundMe has raised more than $210,000 of its $1 million goal. And according to a representative for Wright, at least $20,000 worth of donations came in after Elgort's steamy Insta photo went viral, so he was able to turn everybody's quarantine horniness into a force for good (before he was pressured into deleting it due to its violation of the platform's terms and conditions).
"I don't know how much of this is from the post, but it seems a lot of people have been giving in the last few hours. Thanks a lot, looks like it was worth it," Elgort said on his Instagram Story. "Unfortunately, Instagram told me I gotta take my post down because it's nudity, so I'm going to take it down — or maybe I'll repost the version that cuts a little higher, how about that?"
