Anwar Hadid Has One Rule When Giving Jewelry to Significant Others
He has a well-known last name, top models for sisters, and dates Dua Lipa, but Anwar Hadid has had no trouble carving out a space all his own. The 20-year-old — who, yes, has walked a few runways himself — co-founded a jewelry brand Martyre back in 2018, creating pieces that have ended up on magazine covers and various celebrities.
"I have always loved jewelry," Hadid tells InStyle over email, reminding us that he's rarely spotted without a handful of rings or a chain. "But, I have always been drawn to design in all aspects of the word. I’m drawn to the fact that we can pull creativity and ideas from our minds, making them into physical representations."

A lot of what Martyre sells is considered classic and timeless, whether it's a simple pendant necklace or a pair of tiny hoops, all of which come in both gold and silver. Hadid says that was part goal, instead of hopping on the latest accessory trend.
"Whenever I think about design, I think of creating something that can last throughout different eras. We try to create things that can stand the test of time."
Ahead, Hadid fills us in on his process, Martyre's plans to expand, and why Zayn was the perfect person for the latest campaign (aside from, you know, being Gigi's boyfriend). He also shares some advice for gifting jewelry to your significant other, which might just come in handy for future holidays and birthday surprises.
Do you ever design pieces with specific people in mind?
No, we design with shapes and ideas we want to try and bring to life.
Why was Zayn the perfect person to be in your latest campaign?
I have always seen Zayn as someone who conveys his passions through his art and the things he enjoys. I feel like that is one of the first things that we connected on, so it just felt right.
Will you ever expand into designing something other than jewelry?
We plan to make our way into men's and women’s clothing, and will be diving into accessories.
Will the brand ever collaborate?
I believe the right collaborations will always come in natural moments, when two visions can really come together for something great. I think there is a space for Martyre to have many great collaborations, with artists of design all the way to musicians and sculptors.
