American Idol came to a close last night as it crowned a winner of one of the most dramatic, controversial seasons in Idol history. The two-hour finale was filled with performances from the judges, former contestants, and the three remaining in the competition: Caleb Lee Hutchinson, Maddie Poppe, and Gabby Barrett.

The drama didn't stop with the finale, though. Following the last episode of the ABC reboot, fans immediately took to social media to share their opinions about the last three contestants-and people had a lot to say.

Before Ryan Seacrest announced the first elimination of the night, he named Hutchinson as safe. Then, the host informed Barrett that her journey on Idol was over-and fans were devastated.

In the wake of that sad news for Barrett, remaining contestants Hutchinson and Poppe shared something positive: they're dating! Still, fans put the couple's romantic involvement aside and held fast to their allegiances.

After Seacrest named Poppe as ABC's first American Idol, angry fans took to Twitter once again. Many complained that the show is "rigged," citing the final two contestants' relationship as evidence. Others were divided over which half of the couple should have won.

Regardless of who you voted for, there can only be one winner. Congratulations, Maddie!
