The 'Downton Abbey' Movie Teaser Is Finally Here
Is that the tinkling of a bell I hear? You are cordially invited to return to Downton Abbey, thanks to the first teaser for the forthcoming film. The Crawley family, the Abbey's staff, and the house itself will give you those warm, cozy feelings (that you'll have to stifle and keep inside you forever, because you're a proper English noble, goddammit!).
The teaser itself is very light on plot details, not even showing a clear glimpse of any key characters. But there are several sweeping views of the house itself, and a tease of an official trailer coming soon.
Among the returning cast members are Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith Hexham), Elizabeth McGovern (Lady Grantham), Brendan Coyle (John Bates), Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary Talbot), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates), Matthew Goode (Henry Talbot), and Maggie Smith (Dowager Lady Grantham). According to Variety, shooting started in September this year. Other original players behind the scenes include creator Julian Fellowes, who wrote the film's script, and the director of the pilot, Brian Percival-so it sounds like the big-screen version will stick closely to the show we know and love.
Running for six seasons, the original show introduced us to the Crawley family and their staff as they lived in the titular house at the turn of the 20th century.
Downton Abbey comes to theaters September 20, 2019.
