Apple's Bluetooth AirPods, at Long Last, Are Available to Order
Originally slated for an October launch, the infamous Apple AirPods ($160) are available now.
Apple announced today that their new wireless headphones can now be ordered in limited quantities from Apple.com starting today, and will be found at Apple Stores, Apple Authorized Resellers, and select carriers in over 100 countries next week. The product delay was an unusual move for Apple, and even now the shop page says it'll take four weeks to ship.
The good news is that the AirPods are super easy to set up, charge, and use.
"Just open the charging case near your iPhone and with a simple tap, AirPods are immediately set up with all the devices signed into your iCloud account, including your Apple Watch, iPad and Mac," says Apple in a press release.
Just double-tap on the AirPods to activate Siri. And no more worrying about accidentally playing your music in front of everyone on the bus — the AirPods detect when they're in your ear, and can pause and play your music automatically.
Although one charge only gives the AirPods about five hours of playing time, Apple's press release adds that "the custom-designed charging case holds additional charges for an industry-leading total of more than 24 hours of listening time, ensuring AirPods are charged and ready to go whenever you are."
You may want to note that Forbes says they're "made of pure magic," Rolling Stones calls them "pretty f--king cool," and Self points out that like many other everyday objects (paper clips, coins), they are a choking hazard.
