Arizona hotels named best in the west. Here's which ones were ranked top 10 by travelers

Arizona resorts dominated a new national ranking of the region's best.

Conde Nast Traveler released its 2023 Readers' Choice Awards results, compiled based on readers' favorite travel experiences in the U.S. and the world. It recognized four Arizona resorts on its list of the top 10 hotels in the Southwest and West, more than any other state.

And those four included the top two overall: L'Auberge de Sedona at No. 1 and the Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley at No. 2.

Here's a look at the hotels the travel magazine's readers enjoyed the most.

No. 1: L'Auberge de Sedona in Sedona

L'Auberge de Sedona (French for "The Inn of Sedona") is located on the banks of Oak Creek in Sedona, within close proximity to the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village and numerous outdoor activities and restaurants. The resort is a haven for travelers seeking relaxation and meaningful experiences, from stargazing to curated art experiences and feeding the resort's ducks at Duck Beach. L'Auberge's accommodations are a mix of guest rooms and cottages, each designed to highlight the natural surroundings.

No. 2: The Hermosa Inn in Paradise Valley

This Paradise Valley escape, situated along the Camelback Mountain foothills, is a boutique hotel first built in the 1930s as a private one-bedroom studio for cowboy artist Lon Megargee. His artwork hangs on the hotel walls and his name is echoed in the resort's on-site restaurants Lon's at the Hermosa and Lon's Last Drop Bar. Today, the Hermosa Inn has 43 hacienda-style guest rooms and casitas with features like fireplaces, patios and vaulted ceilings. Earlier this year, the Hermosa Inn was named the best Arizona hotel in a Travel + Leisure ranking.

No. 5: W Scottsdale

The only Arizona resort on this year's list to also rank in the top 10 last year (it was No. 7), W Scottsdale caters to both travelers who wish to unwind and to the party crowd, or as the hotel describes itself, "the perfect balance between a mid-week mellow and a wild weekend." Pool parties happen with regularity at the Wet Deck on the second floor, located above the hotel entrance. Guests who need pampering can drop by the Away Spa for a massage, with enhancements like hot stones and aromatherapy available. Revelers and the tranquil alike will find appeal in W Scottsdale's adults-only ambiance; the pools and lounges are restricted for guests 21 and up.

No. 9: Hotel Valley Ho, Scottsdale

This midcentury hotel in Old Town Scottsdale, distinctive for its blend of contemporary and Southwestern design influences in its look and feel, evolved under new ownership in the 2000s. This led to additions such as a seven-story tower, the OH Pool, VH Spa for Vitality + Health and the on-site restaurant ZuZu, perhaps best known for its monthly Show Stopper specialty milkshakes. Rooms feature feather-top beds and private patios or balconies, and the hotel doesn't charge resort fees.

Newly renovated Sedona resort is No. 3 destination spa

Conde Nast Traveler readers voted for their favorite destination spas in the world, and an Arizona spa placed in the top five spas on the U.S. list: Mii amo at No. 3.

Last year's Readers' Choice list featured 19 U.S. spas, including four in Arizona, and Mii amo came in at No. 12.

At the time, Mii amo — a spa resort within the Enchantment Resort at Sedona's Boynton Canyon — was closed to make way for a $40 million renovation project. It reopened in February with 26 new treatment rooms, a new fitness studio, a new restaurant and seven new casita rooms.

Shortly after the renovation debuted, Travel + Leisure named Mii amo one of the world's best new hotels for 2023.
