Arnold Schwarzenegger Stopped by Gold's Gym and Reminisced About 'Pumping Iron'
Though his career spans more than 50 years, Arnold Schwarzenegger still takes time to remember his roots on the regular—even while respecting social distancing guidelines. In a recent Instagram post, the actor, politician and legendary bodybuilder posed in front of the original Gold’s Gym on his bike. His caption lauded the location for being a catalyst for his iconic career.
“I love stopping on my 12 mile bike rides to enjoy some of my fantastic memories,” Schwarzenegger wrote in the Instagram photo's caption. “When I ride by the original Gold’s where we shot Pumping Iron in 1975, I can almost hear the weights clanging around and smell the sweat. I can feel the joy of the friendships I built here."
Pumping Iron, which arguably made both Gold’s Gym and Schwarzenegger household names, was released in 1977.
Imparting some well-earned wisdom, Schwarzenegger added, “It’s so important to remember where you came from, and all of the people who helped you along the way.”
Arnold still famously frequents the original Gold’s Venice Beach location where Pumping Iron was shot—at least prior to COVID-19. The icon announced in June that he would was boycotting his longtime workout spot because they were not requiring members to wear face masks after reopening after a prolonged pandemic-induced closure.
Regardless of his current standing with the OG Gold's, take sound advice from a champ: Always remember your come up, no matter how many years it’s been.
