CARTHAGE, Mo. — A local art gallery has a new exhibit showcasing three local artists.
Art Central opened the Sydney Amato art exhibit Saturday in Carthage.
Sydney’s Story: Becoming an Artist
Along with her art, the exhibit also shows work from Chris Crosby and Philip Scarpine.
But Scarpine, an 82-year-old artist whose work has never been displayed in an art museum before, didn’t even know he was a part of the show.
Scarpine’s daughter, Carie, decided to surprise her father by putting his artwork up for everyone to see.
“It feels incredible. It’s amazing. You know you don’t realize how much work you do, how beautiful it is until you see it on a wall, in a studio, it’s amazing, I really love it,” said Philip Scarpine, artist.
Scarpine specializes in black and white portraits with a splash of color to make the art pop.
His work will be on display at Art Central through October 19.
