Ashley Benson Opens Up on How She Tackles Acne Issues
Ashley Benson is best known for her starring role on the hit television series Pretty Little Liars. But one might notice that, aside from her role on the show, she is also a huge fan of selfies. While her skin always looks supple and smooth in photos, the actress admitted on Wednesday that she deals with acne-related issues.
“I know when I have any breakout, I [inevitably] have to be on camera or be at an event and take photos,” Benson, 27, noted before a crowd of beauty editors and bloggers at a New York City launch of her partnership with an OTC acne medication, Differin Gel. “It can be really uncomfortable, and can make you super-insecure and want to stay in your house all day — which I have done before.”
The product works well on her highly sensitive skin, she noted, explaining that her nonstop schedule can take a toll on her complexion. “Being an actress and working 16 to 18 hours on set — or traveling all the time or going to events — you have makeup on 24/7 … and obviously that affects your skin,” Benson said.
“A normal day for me from Monday to sometimes Saturday mornings is filming PLL, or doing a film. … I start hair and makeup at like 5 in the morning,” she explained. “Before every scene or every take, you’re with your makeup artist or your hair artist. They all come up to you, and they put pounds of makeup on, so by the end of the night I can scrape off my makeup.”
She admitted that, despite her regular battle with breakouts, “I don’t really see a dermatologist. I’ve never found the time to do it and, to be honest, I was little lazy about that stuff.”
Benson was perky and aglow on Wednesday, though, wearing a chic all-black outfit topped off with her choppy pinkish-blond lob, and minimal makeup over skin that looked as smooth as a baby’s bottom.
