Ashley Graham Got Real About What It's Like to Be a New Mother With a Postpartum Selfie

Ashley Graham is offering a candid glimpse into what it's like to be a new mom.

On Monday night (February 10), Graham took to her personal Instagram to share a mirror shot of her postpartum body with a relatable caption.

"Raise your hand if you didn’t know you’d be changing your own diapers too," the model joked. "After all these years in fashion I never could’ve guessed that disposable underwear would be my favorite piece of clothing but here we are! No one talks about the recovery and healing (yes even the messy parts) new moms go through. I wanted to show you guys that it’s not all rainbows and butterflies! It’s been tough, but my friend Chelsea @cmrh and ceo at @fridamom is making waves and starting honest conversations. It’s unbelievable the obstacles we still face talking about what women really go through. All their stuff she sent me has been a life saver."

In the photo, Graham is seen wearing a black sports bra and light gray disposable underwear, which can be seen in a package on her bathroom counter.

Graham's candid revelation about what it's like to become a new mom comes just days after she shared her newborn son Isaac Menelik Giovanni Ervin's name during a very personal episode of her Pretty Big Deal podcast, which her husband Justin Ervin appeared on alongside her.

Graham explained that she and Ervin opted for "Menelik," which means "son of the wise" following a trip to Ethiopia last Christmas, where they learned the country's first emperor shared the same name.

During the same podcast, Graham described the natural water birth that brought little Menelik into the world.

"Seeing you with tears in your eyes and saying, ‘I can see his head’ gave me so much strength to just push him out, and I really needed that," she told Ervin of the birth, which she underwent without medication.

"I’m so grateful that I was able to deliver naturally in my home with my husband by my side for all 6 hours of labor," she said of the intimate family moment. Being a new mom may be difficult, but Graham is certainly grateful for the experience.
