Ashley Graham *Literally* Embraces Her Curves in Naked Mirror Selfie
Ashley Graham could teach a class in body positivity. The new mama has already made it clear that she’s not ashamed of her stretch marks (and why should she be?!) and is proving it again with a new naked mirror selfie. On Oct. 18, she posted a pic hugging her body while baring it all.
She captioned the photo, “nakie big girl ????.” Some of her followers are taking issue with the word “big,” by pointing out that society’s ideal beauty standards are, frankly, ridiculous.
“I hate that this is seen as ‘big girl.’ I see nothing but a beautiful, naturally curvy woman in all her glory..... super sexy and womanly ??,” one user wrote. Another added, “I’m 4 months postpartum and have been struggling with my new body. Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures.”
Ashley and her husband, Justin Ervin, welcomed their son Isaac earlier this year. We love that Ashley’s acceptance of her body is giving the space for other women to do the same. In July, she shared pics from her Swimsuits for All photoshoot, featuring beautiful unedited photos that showed her pregnancy stretch marks. She opened up about the experience to People.
“There’s always a question of, ‘What do you want us to retouch, and what do you want us to take out?’” she explained. “And I said, ‘Nothing,’ except for a clamp holding up the DIY backdrop. I want everybody to know genuinely… I want people to see who I am because everybody has a story.”
“A lot of women I speak to have image issues, body issues around confidence,” she added. “I want them to understand that we all have things that society has told us to cover up, and why do we need to do that? So here I am with mine out and about and proud.”
Ashley also spoke about adjusting to her body changing after pregnancy, saying, “It looks so simple and beautiful but powerful. I’ve got more weight on me. I have stretch marks, and in the beginning, I really had to have a lot of conversations with myself and tell myself, ‘Okay, new body, new mindset. But after this photo shoot, I felt so empowered because I was like, ‘Yes. I look good. I feel good. This is my new mom bod.’”
