Ashley Graham stands behind her decision to stop breastfeeding: 'I don't think we should be telling people how we should be feeding our kids'
Ashley Graham is standing by her decision to stop breastfeeding her twin sons.
The mom of three welcomed twin boys, Malachi and Roman, in 2022, and opened up on Tuesday about her decision to stop breastfeeding in an interview with Chelsea Handler on The Daily Show.
She joked that it felt like she was "feeding a nation" at one point and explained that as a new mom she thought breastfeeding was the only "right" way to feed.
"There's this whole thing with people telling you how to feed your child," she said.
The model has been quite candid about the realities of motherhood, often sharing photos of her tandem breastfeeding sessions to Instagram.
"There's not one thing that I wanted to kind of be left in the dark, especially with like how your body is changing when you're pregnant and stretch marks and then saggy skin and formula [and] breastfeeding," she said.
Graham breastfed her first son Issac, now 3, and initially tried to do the same with her twin boys.
"With my first kid, I was like, 'I can only breastfeed! This is the right way!'" she said.
But nursing twins was a whole different ball game for Graham, who stopped with them at 5 months.
"Then I had the twins, and I was like, 'I'm not doing this. This is not working here. Both of you want both of these? This is a lot of work,'" she said.
She promptly switched them to infant formula and notes that her boys are "so strong and so happy."
"I gave them the best formula that I could find in America," she said.
Beyond her personal decision to stop breastfeeding, Graham says mothers deserve more grace in general.
"I don't think we should be telling people how we should be feeding our kids," she said.
She also joked that pregnancy and breastfeeding left her "fully depleted of everything."
"Your body fills up with nutrition, and then the baby sucks it out of you. You get acne. The weight doesn't come off, [and] your boobs go down to here when you're done. I have two bras on currently. It's fine," she said.
