Pregnant Ashley Tisdale sips coffee, sparks debate
Ashley Tisdale sparked debate in her Instagram comments after posting a video of herself drinking coffee.
On Wednesday, the 35-year-old Disney alum, who is expecting her first child with husband Christopher French, shared a video taking a sip of coffee.
“When you’[v]e been up since 4am it’s coffee time,” she captioned the post.
Some fans took to the comments to express concern about the actress drinking coffee while pregnant, with many asking the question: “Can you drink coffee when pregnant?”
In September, the British Medical Journal published findings that suggested alcohol consumption during pregnancy was not safe at any level. Experts have since questioned the claims made in the study.
Dr. Christopher Zahn, vice president of practice activities for the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, told CNN, “Our guidance remains that moderate caffeine consumption, less than 200 mg per day, does not appear to be a major contributing factor in miscarriage or preterm birth," he clarified. The recommended amount translates to about one 12-ounce cup of coffee per day.
Mixed guidance indicates that one is completely sure what effect coffee has on pregnant women, but most can agree that moderation is key.
