The Athens area is getting ready to boom! Here are some upcoming 4th of July festivities
Get ready to celebrate 248 years of American independence with a fireworks display at the Star Spangled Classic starting at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 29, at Southeast Clarke Park in Athens 4440 Lexington Rd.
Fireworks will be launched at about 9:30 p.m. from the east side of the park.
There will also be plenty of Independence Day celebrations throughout the Athens area.

The Original Splitz will perform from 7-8:30 p.m.
A food truck court will be onsite

Where to park?
Limited onsite parking is available on a first-come, first-served and is available through the Lexington Road park entrance.
Additional parking can be found at the Lexington Road Wal-Mart and Whit Davis Elementary School with complimentary shuttle service by Athens Transit to the park and back.
Parking locations will open at 5:30 p.m.
Once parking is full at Southeast Clarke Park, no more cars will be permitted.
All park rules will be enforced including no alcohol, personal fireworks, grills, or smoking. Pets are not allowed at this event.
Avoid parking on the side of roads and respect private property when choosing a viewing location. The park will close at the end of the show, and no overnight parking is permitted. Traffic patterns will shift at the conclusion of this event.
What else is going on?
The City of Madison annually hosts a fireworks display in celebration of Independence Day on Wednesday, July 3, 9-10 p.m. at Bill Wood Park.
Oglethorpe County Recreation Department will host their fourth annual Independence Day Celebration with vendors (opening at 6 p.m.) and fireworks (at 9 p.m.). on Thursday, July 4, at 34 Lakeshore Dr. Crawford, Ga.
The City of Jackson will have a fireworks display on Thursday, July 4, 7-9 p.m. at 567 Ernest Biles Dr. There will be free parking, free entrance, and no concessions.
Star Spangled Snellville on Thursday July 4, from 4-10 p.m. with family friendly entertainment and festival foods. The event is free to attend, however, the all day activity kids zone arm band is $15. There will be no coolers allowed, all rides will close at 9 p.m. sharp and the fireworks display will start when the sky becomes dark, approximately 9:30 p.m.
The City of Lawrenceville will host Prelude to the Fourth on Wednesday July 3, 5-10 p.m. at Lawrenceville Lawn with family friendly music and fireworks that are free.
